Karen Elson is a leading British model of the era. Initially spotted in the street in her hometown of Bolton, near Manchester in the North of England, it was a chance introduction to Steven Meisel in Milan that began her very singular career. Under Meisel's influence Elson created an incredibly distinctive look - which included the removal of her eyebrows, a severe hair cut, and flaming red hair colour. Ever since this look has been her trademark, earning her the nickname 'beautiful freak', and putting her at the forefront of the trend for unusual beauty. Before she was twenty Elson had been the face of Channel, Gucci, Valentino and Versace.
